Q. I know its a icky question but I need to know. O.k. a bit of history. When I was 23 I had my little boy. I had quite a normal pregnancy. I was 15 hours in labour, he got stuck because he wasn't turning. After another hour he decided to turn and he came out. I had to have a catheter because I had to have stitches. After it was removed I didn't get much sensation back. My son is now 4 and still there is very little sensation in the area. My bladder doesn't tell me that it is full, until I am literally wetting myself. This is causing pain and discomfort in my kidneys. I always have an infection and now I am seeing a doctor who asked me to keep a diary. I was just wondering if anyone knows how much fluid a bladder can hold. The maximum a bladder can hold does vary of course, but about 500 mls ( 16 ounces) is the usual maximum it can hold. A normal urination is about 200-400 mls ( 6 to 12 ounces). . I can understand what your doc is thinking - if you try to wait a little longer when you want to "go", then you may be able to train your bladder to hold onto more urine.
